Commissioned Art
It’s large bold and beautiful, but sorry you can’t have this one… someone else already commissioned it.
Since the end of October, I have been working on a large commissioned oil painting. This particular painting is a diptych (two panel) which needed to be a specific size (about 5 x 6 feet) to fit a clients accent wall. The painting is now finished and almost dry and the owner has been gracious to let us display it at the gallery for the public until December 18th only. We will then have a private reception for the client and their friends before it gets installed in their home.
In our three years in Sugar Loaf I was commissioned to do two paintings. In the last month in Warwick I have already taken on 3 commissioned paintings. This seems to be a decorating trend in the area, and the works are getting larger too.
Commissioned work is quite a different process for me. Clients chose a style or genre that they like from work that I have already done. Then a specific size or color scheme is sometimes necessary for their space. On this particular painting the customer had an idea in mind inspired by my painting titled Abstract Still Life which was in the sold section of our website. I drew up several sketches and they chose the one that they liked the best. They were not at all afraid of bright colors, which made working on this painting a lot of fun for me.
The Process

Final Commissioned Painting on easel
I am very proud of this painting. It is a personal accomplishment for me to meet the needs of a client with my visual concepts and to successfully end up with such a beautiful work of art.
With other clients they have shown me the specific colors and feel of their room and simply trust me to “do my thing”. Either way it makes for a very personal piece of art for the home.
Other commissioned paintings
Here below is another commissioned oil painting that I did for a client based on the “Dancing Grape-leaves” theme. It’s a similar look to my series but this client needed a smaller, thin and long horizontal painting to fit a specific space in her home.
I have other examples but I hope you get a sense of what doing a commissioned piece is like. It’s fun for the client and the artists. Very rewarding experience. If you are interested in having a piece for your home please contact Lisa at the gallery and set up a meeting.
