This lovely oil painting portrait was brought to us because it had fallen over by accident and landed on something sharp which ripped the canvas quite badly. As you can see it was ripped in a very important part of this portrait. This makes for a more difficult repair.

In a case like this, the painting itself was in very good condition. It was clean, fairly new and in great shape. The only thing needed was to repair the ripped canvas, and then in-paint it so it becomes as invisible as possible.

And while the in-painting part is considered restoration, it was just in one spot. As we see it, it was primarily a repair, and we want people to know they can come to us with a repair like this, and not worry about always doing a major and rather expensive restoration project.

In this repair Lisa actually weaved the original canvas back together with the small strands within the rip. This is an incredibly difficult thing to do, and she does it very well, it;s amazing. Then she created a special patch made from the same kind of canvas as the original painting. From there she has a unique way to adhere the patch so it does not show through to the front.

The results were beautiful.
